ANAHEIM HILLS — Credit Union of Southern California partnered with the Boys & Girls Club of Fullerton in early July to bring Kona Ice to nearly 200 youth at the club's facility as part of its CU SoCal CARES community initiative.
The event underscores the importance of sustained community partnerships for youth organizations operating in areas where resources can be limited. According to Shirley Ramirez, chief operating officer of the Boys & Girls Club of Fullerton, CU SoCal's commitment went beyond a one-time donation.
"We're grateful for CU SoCal's partnership and their continued support of the youth we serve," Ramirez said.
The credit union's team visited the facility, spoke with staff about their needs and developed a plan before executing the event. Melissa Manning, vice president of business and talent development at CU SoCal, said the effort reflects the organization's core values.
"Creating opportunities to connect with and support local youth is at the heart of our CU SoCal CARES efforts," Manning said. "We're proud to help create moments that bring joy and connection to children and families in the communities we serve."
CU SoCal CARES runs six community events annually, with three completed so far this year and three more scheduled. This consistency allows youth organizations to plan around the partnerships and build lasting relationships.
The Boys & Girls Club of Fullerton serves Orange County families by providing safe after-school spaces, structured activities, mentorship and opportunities for young people. CU SoCal, a federally chartered credit union founded in 1954 as the Whittier Area Schools Federal Credit Union, has more than $4 billion in assets and serves over 187,000 members across Southern California.
The partnership demonstrates how local institutions can strengthen community ties through direct engagement rather than abstract donations.
