CU SoCal CARES Brings Smiles to Local Youth Through Give Kids A Smile Day

Credit Union of Southern California distributed snow cones to nearly 200 young people at a summer event held in partnership with the Boys & Girls Club of Fullerton.

The initiative, part of CU SoCal's annual CARES program, brought staff and volunteers to the boys and girls club facility to coordinate with club leadership in distributing frozen treats to attendees.

Shirley Ramirez, the club's chief operating officer, said the partnership extends an existing relationship between the two organizations.

"We're grateful for CU SoCal's partnership and their continued support of the youth we serve," Ramirez said.

CU SoCal, a federally chartered credit union with $4 billion in assets and over 187,000 members, hosts six CARES events annually. The organization was founded in 1954 as Whittier Area Schools Federal Credit Union and has evolved into a regional financial cooperative with membership criteria ranging from family relationships to employer partnerships to residency in specific areas.

Melissa Manning, vice president of business and talent development at CU SoCal, said the event reflected the organization's community priorities.

"Creating opportunities to connect with and support local youth is at the heart of our CU SoCal CARES efforts," Manning said. "We're proud to help create moments that bring joy and connection to children and families in the communities we serve."

The summer timing of the event provides resources to youth programming during a period when many programs face resource constraints as the school year ends, organizers said.
