The Atlanta Voice is hosting a community discussion on Black masculinity, fatherhood and mental health this month, bringing together athletes, community leaders and wellness experts to address vulnerability in men's lives.
The event, titled "Black Men, Fatherhood & Vulnerability," is scheduled for Thursday, June 25 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at a venue partnered with WAREhouse Studios and Rec Fit. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Admission is free, and registration is encouraged but not required.
Super Bowl champion Dominique Easley will moderate a panel that includes Richard Dunn, chief operating officer of The Atlanta Voice and cultural activist; Alex Hooks, a commercial strategist and mentor; Chris James, a wellness counselor and public speaker; Terrance Albritton, founder of Grady Baby Co. and pastor; and Mack Brown, former NFL running back and leadership expert.
The event will begin with an opening panel discussion followed by smaller breakout sessions designed to encourage attendee participation and allow for sharing of personal experiences.
Men's Health Month, observed annually in June, traditionally focuses on preventable health problems and early disease detection among boys and men. In recent years, the observance has expanded to include mental health and emotional wellness, addressing topics such as depression, isolation and cultural pressures around vulnerability.
The partnership reflects an effort to connect physical health, mental wellness and community engagement. Easley's involvement is significant given his public advocacy for mental health and therapy.
The panel's composition intentionally brings multiple perspectives to the conversation: Albritton offers a faith perspective; James provides clinical expertise; Hooks contributes mentorship experience; Brown represents the athlete-to-leadership pathway; and Dunn brings media and cultural commentary.
