Shell announced a $5 million commitment to disaster relief efforts in Venezuela following earthquakes that struck the country this week, channeling funds through the World Food Programme and selected local humanitarian organizations.
The contribution will support emergency food distribution, essential supplies and immediate assistance to affected communities.
"Our priority is to help those affected, and we are working with trusted humanitarian partners to deliver urgent relief where it is needed most," said Adam Lowmass, Shell Venezuela's president.
The company said the routing of funds through the World Food Programme and local humanitarian partners reflects best practice in corporate giving. The WFP maintains credible operational capacity in Venezuela and possesses experience navigating the country's complex humanitarian landscape.
Shell's Venezuela operations span decades and include substantial investments in Venezuelan petroleum infrastructure. The company maintains a significant presence in the country despite Venezuela facing international sanctions and severe governance challenges.
The announcement did not specify which local organizations will receive resources or outline oversight mechanisms for fund deployment.
