A Waxahachie mother is being held on a $2.5 million bond after being charged with two counts of capital murder in the deaths of her sons, according to court documents and law enforcement records.
Colleen Nichole Lemmon, 42, was arrested following the discovery of two gunshot victims at a residence on Big Sky Drive early Thursday. The Ellis County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of an "unknown emergency" just before 4:15 a.m.
The first victim, Christopher Scott Pitre, 21, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim, a 15-year-old male, was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and later died from his injuries. Both deaths were ruled homicides from gunshot wounds.
Deputies found Lemmon at the residence with non-life-threatening injuries, including what appeared to be self-inflicted lacerations on her wrists. A handgun was recovered near the scene. According to an arrest affidavit, Lemmon allegedly admitted to the shootings in statements to responding officers.
Lemmon was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment following her arrest. She is currently being held at a local detention facility.
Capital murder charges under Texas law carry the potential for significant prison time or capital punishment upon conviction. These charges typically indicate that prosecutors believe the deaths occurred under circumstances that elevate the offense beyond standard murder, such as multiple murders committed in the same criminal transaction.
The boys' father, Scott Pitre, said his younger son had recently turned 15 and expressed his desire for justice.
"My deepest sympathies go out to the victims' father, family members, and loved ones involved in this tragic incident. They will remain in our prayers during this difficult time," Sheriff Brad Norman said in a statement.
The Ellis County Sheriff's Office said the investigation remains ongoing.
