The Indiana Fever dominated the Connecticut Sun 111-91 on Friday night, extending their winning ways before the WNBA pauses for the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup.
The Sun jumped to a surprising 28-19 lead after the opening quarter at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, but the Fever responded decisively. Indiana outscored Connecticut 39-15 in the second quarter alone, building a commanding 58-43 halftime advantage that effectively decided the game.
Caitlin Clark orchestrated the offense with 34 points and 12 assists, while Kelsey Mitchell added 34 points. The performance extended a historic streak for the duo: Clark and Mitchell have now combined for four games where both scored 30-plus points, a WNBA record for teammates in a single season.
Mitchell's performance moved her into the league lead in total points scored. The victory marked Indiana's 19th game this season with 100-plus points.
"It was a performance that showcased what's been working for the Fever lately," coming off a 113-90 victory over Chicago two days earlier, as the team prepared for the break.
A no-look pass from Clark to Mitchell for an easy bucket in the third quarter exemplified the team-oriented, creative basketball that has defined Indiana's recent surge.
The Fever have four regular season games remaining before the league goes dark for the World Cup. Their next game comes Sept. 18 on the road against Toronto.
