The Atlanta Braves defeated the Washington Nationals 6-2 Friday night at Truist Park to extend their winning streak to three games, combining solid pitching with timely offensive bursts.
The victory provided a decisive finish after the Braves edged the Mets 1-0 on Wednesday and squeaked past the Nationals 5-4 on Thursday.
Bryce Elder took the mound for Atlanta and allowed just one earned run over six innings while striking out three. The right-hander worked efficiently, throwing 75 pitches through five innings.
Matt Olson launched a solo home run on the first pitch of the game — a 394-foot blast down the first base line into the Chop House seating area. Jim Jarvis extended the lead to 2-0 with an RBI single in the second inning.
Washington's CJ Abrams cut the deficit to 2-1 with a solo homer in the fourth.
The Braves broke the game open in the sixth when Michael Harris II hit a three-run home run in the same area where Olson had connected earlier, extending the lead to 5-1. Harris finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs and tied his career high with his 20th home run of the season.
Jarvis added another run with a base hit up the middle, pushing the lead to 6-1. All six Braves runs were charged to Nationals starter Foster Griffin.
Elieser Hernandez pitched from the seventh inning into the ninth, striking out two while surrendering a solo home run to Andres Chapparo that made the final score 6-2.
