Roman Reigns defeated Seth Rollins to retain his World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam 2026 on Aug. 2 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, closing a narrative that began over a decade ago when the two wrestlers entered WWE as brothers in The Shield.
The match began with Reigns and Rollins trading blows in the ring before spilling into the crowd. Reigns caught Rollins attempting a spear through the barricade and hit a powerbomb that sent him crashing through an announce table. Rollins answered with his own powerbomb and later connected with a pedigree.
The turning point came when Rollins retrieved a steel chair—the same weapon he had used to betray Reigns 12 years earlier when the group fractured. Reigns refused to use it, instead demanding they finish the match on equal terms in the center of the ring.
After more moves from both competitors, Reigns connected with his finishing maneuver and pinned Rollins.
Following the match, Reigns extended his fist to Rollins in a callback to The Shield's iconic salute. Rollins reciprocated before leaving his Shield mask in the middle of the ring, signifying the end of their brotherhood.
