A Walmart employee was struck by a stray bullet during a dispute between two men at a store in Darby Township, Pennsylvania, on Friday evening, police said.
The shooting occurred around 7 p.m. at the Walmart at 50 McDade Boulevard when officers responded to reports of gunfire inside the store, according to Darby Township Police Chief Michael Sousa.
The incident began with a verbal altercation in the self-checkout area, Sousa told Fox News Digital. One man drew a handgun and fired, striking a female Walmart employee in the leg. The employee was transported to a hospital for treatment. Sousa did not immediately provide details on the severity of her condition.
The suspect fled the scene before police arrived. The Walmart and surrounding businesses were evacuated and cleared by law enforcement.
Detectives are using surveillance footage from inside the store to identify the shooter. Police have not yet released the suspect's identity.
The investigation is being led by Darby Township Police, with potential coordination from the Delaware County district attorney's office and state police, depending on jurisdictional protocols.
