A Bronx resident was arrested Wednesday after driving through the front gate of Beyoncé and Jay-Z's East Hampton property, authorities said.
Keith Jonathan Webster, 63, was charged with felony criminal mischief in the second degree and misdemeanor criminal trespass in the third degree. According to a police report, Webster drove at high speed up the property's entrance before crashing through the wooden gate, causing significant front-end damage to his vehicle.
A witness told police that Webster did not attempt to stop his vehicle until after breaking through the gate and entering the driveway. His vehicle was impounded as evidence.
Webster was transported to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital after reporting an injury while being processed by police. He was released back into police custody and appeared Thursday before Justice Steven Tekulsky for his arraignment. The judge issued a stay-away order of protection prohibiting Webster from any contact with the homeowners.
Webster appeared disoriented during the arraignment and was transferred to Stony Brook University Hospital's mental health facility for psychiatric evaluation, according to East Hampton Press. Detective Sergeant Jennifer Dunn said Webster has no prior criminal record and investigators are still working to determine a motive.
It remains unclear whether Beyoncé and Jay-Z were present at the residence at the time of the incident. The couple maintains the East Hampton property as one of their residences.
The investigation is ongoing, with Dunn indicating that further details may emerge as the case proceeds through the court system. The stay-away order will remain in effect pending additional court proceedings.
