Americold partnered with Feed the Children and Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta on Wednesday to distribute food and personal care items to 400 families at the Andrew and Walter Young Family YMCA.
Each family received two boxes: one containing 25 pounds of shelf-stable food and another with 15 pounds of personal care products including wet wipes, soap and sunscreen. The distribution followed a first-come, first-served model at the parking lot event.
Colleen Ridenhour, chief growth and strategy officer at Feed the Children, said the partnership addresses a critical need. "Tonight, one in four children is going to go to bed hungry somewhere in the world," she said. "Those numbers are staggering, and we think that they're unacceptable."
The partnership between Americold and Feed the Children has now reached its tenth year. According to Ridenhour, the collaboration has delivered more than 1.9 million meals, assisted more than 400,000 families and distributed over 2.1 million pounds of food.
Rob Chambers, Americold's CEO, described the partnership as aligned with the company's mission. "We're fortunate to be at a mission-driven company that has such an organic mission of helping our customers to feed the world," he said, "and being able to live that through this partnership for the past 10 years has meant as much to us as it has to the communities where we've been able to give back."
Americold, a temperature-controlled logistics company, provided infrastructure and expertise to move food at scale. The YMCA facility served as the physical venue, while Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta helped coordinate the effort.
The event comes as food assistance networks across the country remain strained. The end of pandemic-era federal supplement programs, combined with persistent inflation, has increased demand for organizations like Feed the Children.
