New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart introduced Donald Trump at a rally in Suffern, New York, on Friday, but the appearance drew sharp criticism from a teammate.
Dart, 23 and in his rookie season, took the stage and opened with a "Go Big Blue" chant before formally introducing Trump as "the 45th and 47th president of the United States of America." The moment was captured on video and shared across social media.
Abdul Carter, the Giants' standout pass rusher and fellow first-round draft pick, reposted the video with a blunt critique. "Thought this s–t was AI, what we doing man," Carter wrote on X, with his sarcastic comment drawing immediate attention to internal team dynamics.
Both players were drafted in 2024 with consecutive early selections — Carter at No. 3 overall out of Penn State, Dart at No. 25 after the Giants traded up to secure him from Ole Miss. They were immediately tasked with being foundational pieces for the organization.
Carter has been a defensive force through his rookie season, appearing in all 17 games with 43 tackles, seven tackles for loss and four sacks. However, he faced disciplinary action for attendance and tardiness issues, resulting in being benched for portions of two games.
Dart appeared in 14 games, starting 12, with the team posting a 4-8 record in those starts. He completed nearly 64% of his passes for 2,272 yards with 15 touchdown passes and five interceptions. He also showed mobility with 86 carries for nearly 500 yards and nine rushing touchdowns.
Neither player has done anything technically wrong. Dart exercised his right to participate in political speech, while Carter exercised his right to criticize that participation. Both are protected expressions, though public disagreements between teammates can create distractions for a franchise trying to establish itself as a unified force.
