Gastelum Attorneys opened its Las Vegas family law offices to employees' children on Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day, a decision that reflects how the firm views its mission to serve families navigating life-changing legal transitions.
While a divorce law practice might seem an unusual destination for a workplace visit, Managing Attorney Jennifer Setters said the choice makes sense. As a first-generation Mexican-American graduate of UNLV's William S. Boyd School of Law, she understands that family law affects everything—custody arrangements, child support calculations, relocation decisions and holiday schedules.
"Our attorneys help parents make decisions that fundamentally change their children's lives," Setters said. Bringing employees' children through the office doors sends a message that the work matters, deserves respect, and the families served deserve care.
The firm's team—including Supervising Attorney Yadira Santana, Senior Associates Natricia Tricano and Maria Milano, and Associates Lisa Woodson and Jillian Hardwick—crafted age-appropriate activities to demystify the profession. Children toured offices, learned about Nevada courtroom procedures, heard what a typical day entails for a family law attorney, and explored how lawyers keep children's wellbeing centered when marriages end.
Jeremy Setters, a licensed clinical social worker advising the firm, emphasized the importance of normalizing discussions about family transitions. When adults avoid difficult topics, children fill the silence with their own anxieties. A visit to a family law office reframes change from something scary and shameful into something manageable, he said.
